Hacked?

So yesterday at aproximately 9:12 am, the site was either hacked or experienced a glitch. For those who witnissed it, about half of the homepages directory options disappeared, your inboxes were either showing you a code or gone altogether, and your profile were displaying some sort of code under your avatar.

One of our admins struggled for hours to fix the problems while I searched around the internet for clues as to if the site was hacked and who did the hanous/pathetic act. While we got some information, the culprit is unknown. Bear in mind though that this is Free Forums, and it may have been a temporary glitch. (Though it didn't happen on any other forum I could find.)

No details about who might have done it will be released to ordinary members, but I assure you the staff is handling it. The problem is no longer there so don't worry.

My guess?

It was a glitch. These forums are pretty notoriously unreliable, they have glitches all the time. Besides, if it were hacked, wouldn't the hacker want to leave behind a calling card? Something gloating about their victory? Hackers generally do that.

Maybe it was a glitch, maybe it was a shy person who doesn't want their "work" to be thrown all over. I'm still looking around.

I did consider that it wasa glitch from the start. I give you credit that that's a reasonable and probable answer to it.

Who would want to hack this place anyway? Barely anyone at PA knows this exists and there would be nothing to gain.

...yeah, well, the thing is, whether someone can or can't hack a place, doesn't mean they did. All 'they' did was make a few glitches. Frankly if I wanted to go out of my way to mess with this forum, I'd try to do a little more than that; liiiike, enough to derail the entire site. Maybe it's just me, but it just seems a little lightweight. >,>


Or maybe I'm putting too much faith into the ability and intelligence of most hackers. But I think it was the first one.

I still about 60% think it might have been a glitch, but whoever would have done this, all our suspects don't really care enough to trash the entire site. If it was a hacking, odds are it was just a minor prank. But the way the glitches appeared, with the codes and such, it might just have been a forum error.

Are you sure, or do you want to make more assumptions? You know what they say about "assuming" right?

What kind of a person would want to spend all day roleplaying as original characters set in a cartoon that has been out of production for years? Are you pathetic for doing that? Of course you're not, or at least, you're not any more pathetic than someone who makes fun of fan fics.

I think someone hit a nerve and they're just throwing stuff at each other...

Back to topic, it was a most likely a glitch.

You guys go from talking about hacking to hating on AFTER and fanfiction mockers...

Just chill. Okay? This topic isn't the place to "fight" about mocking fanfictions.

Frankly I'm just short of trying to hack all sites in question just to get people to stop talking about this, and start moaning about the new problem.

Very least people will have an actually hack to complain about.
